Hebrew. The consonantal root underlying a word may be considered the lexeme; for example, the root √MLK is the lexeme underlying מֶ֫לֶךְ king or מַלְכָּה queen. WORD is a language building block composed of a lexeme and all morphemes. For example, the etic lexical item, or word, kicked is composed in part of the lexeme ‘kick’ plus the morpheme ‘past tense’, reflected in the morph -ed.
